WallyFrom 21st to 24th September 2005 “MYS” Monaco Yacht Show - the only international yacht show devoted exclusively to luxury yachting - will give our hearts delight. It’s the biggest in-water display in Europe of super and mega yachts.

Wally1I want to draw your attention to just one highlight:
At the Quai Chicane in Port Hercule Wally will premiere “Open Season” - the new 29-meter (94-foot) sailing yacht - and “Lunch Boat” - the first 67 WallyPower.
Open Season is developed from the successful lines of Y3K, while the deck and interior layouts follow the concept of Tiketitan’s.
?
Wallypower67 Lunch Boat is the first yacht of the new motor yacht line 67 WallyPower, the new motor yacht design that integrates design and technology and combines the open-air living characteristics of the WallyTender, with the hull lines of the 118 WallyPower.

Envbike
Fuel cell technology should be a worthwhile alternative in times when the price for oil keeps rising and rising. env shows the world’s first purpose-built fuel cell motorcycle which could be a first answer to ever increasing energy costs. This technology helps us continue to enjoy the benefits and pleasures of mobility without mortgaging the health of the planet.

CoreAfter years of research and development, hydrogen power is no longer a distant dream and can be packed in such a neat and compact “Core” that good design is no longer limited. By the nature of its electrochemical reaction, a fuel cell can be more than twice as efficient as an internal combustion engine!

ElfcraftWolfgang A. Elfers designs very individual pieces of jewelry. I met him yesterday in his workshop in Hamburg. In his early days he was driven by the question: “Should men wear jewelry and fashionable accessories like women do?”

He answered this general question in his very individual and extraordinary way by designing several pieces of men’s jewelry. First single designs extended into a fascinating collection of jewelry including bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks, belts, biker chains, rings and a lot of individual pieces - even manufactured according to customer’s wishes.

Elfcraft2You will not find his latest gems on his website - as for example, there are some new and really beautiful leather bracelets with decorated sterling clasps… I had to buy some of this.

GQ USA is about to feature his collection in one of their next issues… let’s wait to see some new!

You favor wine instead of a sixpack cold beer for tonight’s dinner? Or you simply want to stack your wines for cooking in a space saving way?

I love to present my selection of 6 “premier cru” for next weekend’s dinner this way…

Wine Harry Allen’s whimisical and practical 2005 release in the Reality Series is a polyster resin cast of a joined wine bottles which have been sliced in half. The resulting object forms the base for creating or presenting stacked wine bottles.

Available in matte black or gypsum white.?

…is a Gaetano Pesce exhibition of the Triennale di Milano curated by Silvana Annicchiarico. Until January 8, 2006 you can enjoy the exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil/Germany.

Broadway ChairBorn in La Spezia, Italy, in 1939 and a resident of New York from 1980 to the present, Gaetano Pesce is one of the most internationally influential designers of the last 40 years with his politically engaged and highly authentic body of work. Yet the exhibition is not honouring him with a classic retrospective. Instead, it employs individual stages of development to illuminate theoretical approaches and problems in Pesce’s work that have their roots in the past and yet were and continue to be forward-looking. Didactically, it does not focus on distanced objects, drawings and texts but also engages visitors on an emotional level through its radically staged presentation.

Aqua table
A little under a year since its inception in September 2004 and Established & Sons has already become a byword for accomplished British furniture design and manufacture. From the commissioning of a collective of Britain’s best design talents - Barber Osgerby / Future Systems / Zaha Hadid / Mark Holmes / Michael Marriott / Alexander Taylor / Sebastian Wrong / Michael Young - to the production of a celebrated premier collection, the advance from fledgling company to established industry player has been a swift and exciting one.

In April 2005 Established & Sons launched their company, its mission and first design collection on an international platform at the Milan Salone. Now Established & Sons will be launching their first collection during London’s design week. An exhibition in partnership with retailer Liberty and an exciting independent off site event and exhibition will be held.

Some examples?

Michael Young Desk“Writing desk” - the little practiced action of letter writing was Michael Young’s inspiration for this product. The writing desk therefore has a very specific function though its appeal is due, in some considerable part, to the elegance of its fluid form, taking the traditional elements of a writing bureau and reinterpreting them in a most contemporary design is the charm of this piece.

Convex mirrorSebastian Wrong’s “Convex mirror” is a wall mounted convex mirror with a steel ball joint at the back allowing movement along three axes. Sophisticated compound curves are combined with precision injection moulded casing, die-cast aluminum fixings and an instrument grade mirrored glass lens to create a very clear expression of quality and a unique, desirable design object. This wall-mounted mirror is engineered to rotate and move in any axis and present a near-perfect reflection.

Finally a great bag!

Sereflective

I have been looking for the appropriate bag to assist me on my travels forever. The kind of bag that is big and allows you to carry tons of samples and brochures without straining your shoulders. It must be smart and organized so you’ll find all your gadgets easily and don’t have to start searching for hours, without having the über geek appeal, some of the ‘connected bags’ have. It should also look cool, so you are not mistaken with the messenger that usually shows up in the office… Obviously the laptop has to easily fit inside as well… You know that kind of bag that doubles as a head rest on 9 hour lay overs in Kuala Lumpur or elsewhere…

Well, enough said, here is my favorite and it is definitely not from any brand you have ever heard of: Tom Bihn. I googled the web and literally looked at hundreds if not thousands of bags and then I found Tom. His website is a tiny bit clunky, but he has a great attitude, great products and a nice way of putting your desired bag together. And the bag is awesome. I took it to Paris for the last weeks and it really performed. Whether at M&O or in town, nothing to complain about.

46081-Tomatenschaeler 320 Pix

Some of you might recall the post a couple weeks ago where I tried the Tomato knife that was hohum and didn’t really convince me. Well, here’s something completely different:

Swiss kitchen utensil manufacturer Zyliss just launched a magnificent tool, a soft skin peeler that work magic with Tomatoes… They also won a red dot award for the knife, so it not only works well, it is also pretty (we really love those products…) So forget about dipping those little red suckers in to boiling water before you can get the skin off, this knife has a super fine serrated blade that get’s the skin off the softest of vegetables… On top of it it also comes with a super sharp tip, that lets you remove any blemishes with surgical precision.

Oh and did I mention it retails for under 10 Dollars? Beauty…

Mantis 1Carbonfunctions‘ “Mantis” is the ultimate outcome of a project that started in 2001. High end German aeronautical and automotive engineering paired with sophisticated German product design by Wolf Udo Wagner resulted in that über-golf caddy. The caddy was designed and named inspired by the shape of a Praying Mantis - from the first form study to the final product marketing.

GriffThe task was to develop a fundamentally new electric golf caddy. The unique technology of the electric driven and also manual usable caddy makes it easy to handle. Steering is simple two-handed. The caddy can be folded compactly or taken into pieces. Put together the mixture of carbon and aeronautical aluminum sums up to 8,2 kilogram.

I1993-1

Had enough of Pokemon? Try on Pookie & Co for size… Probably the most innovative and wonderfully quirky little toy company I have seen in a long time, these little ‘things’ are currently only available in Europe, but we have heard from a reliable source that they will soon be coming to us here as well. They are a series of wonderfully quirky characters, anything but ordinary and instantly lovable… Check them out and send them an email asking for distribution here in the US because they are truly amazing…
