Dsc06491MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMI hope you all know the FANTASTIC Cable YOYO’s, the ultimate handy tool to organize your iPod sync cable and all the other cables you’ve got on your desk taking up space… But here is something, that is SO simple. It’s unbelievable… A small silicone ‘bone’ with two indents at either side, that you’ll simply wrap your headphone cables around and voilá, organized. I showed it to a couple of friends to day and at first they were skeptical: ‘unnecessary’, ‘way to much effort’, etc. But once I took them through the routine, and they saw the simplicity and the effect it would have on their bag. Sold. And the best thing, you can also use it to shorten the cable while you are listening, so you won’t be caught with long dangling cables anymore… Designed by a product designer in Singapore you’ll find the Smartwraps at Sumajin online for global sales or try wowshopper if you’re in the US. Be sure to get a bunch, you’ll be asked a dozen times for one (I was…) and please do complain about the fact that the white ones are roughly 50% more expensive than all the other colors and that is just the worst way to make money… But besides that, great.

Tendence in Frankfurt started yesterday and Maison & Objet in Paris will follow next weekend…That’s the high season for all the table and giftware enthusiasts out there in the world.

As a little appetizer I present the danish company Menu.

Menu’s inspiration and design culture are rooted in the tradition of Scandinavian design, and they are uncompromising in the standard of quality expecting of their products. My favorites are their vases…

…the “LED vase” allows to adjust their color corresponding to the flowers presented in the vase…

Picture 5-2
Growing up part time on Mallorca, I remembered this little B&B as, well a usual B&B. Small, quaint, a little old and dusty, but full of charm. S’hostal d’esporles was one of many small hotels in the small, by tourists unfrequented villages, that are so compelling by the mere fact that they withstand the urge to attract hundreds of potential guests. How stunned was I when I saw the pictures of the remodeled, now Hotel Rigel Esporles. Blame it all on Rafael Trobat and Miguel Miró who run the only acceptable interior decorating company on the island, Puigdorfila. Their impeccable taste and sensibility have transformed this little mom and pop into a precious little gem. Still only 10 rooms, the exterior remained unchanged, yet the inside is a new world. You needed a reason to visit the island of Mallorca? It doesn’t get much better than this. Great location, great food and an attentive young staff should make this visit one to remember. Make sure to travel in October, it wont be as hot as it can be in the summer and the tourists will have disappeared by then, leaving you to explore one of the most amazing islands you’ll ever visit.

Navarro .01
Nope, not Philipe Starck. Eduardo Navarro. Still, it is very interesting that an established designer and a fairly unknown (well, depends who you ask) designer both play with the same unusual but absolutely appropriate color for a chandelier. But the usual holds true, the newcomer approaches the challenge in an unconventional and amazing way: The chandelier - including the candles - are cut from black aluminum. The light is emitted from the Svarovski crystals that have LED’s inserted into their base. This way the light is reflected through the 33 roughly Walnut sized crystals into every corner imaginable in the room that merely acts as the stage for this magnificent display of light and shadow.

AK Soap Packs
Where as a couple of days ago we found good products in pretty ugly packaging, today we have a wonderful product in a wonderful package. Acca Kappa products have been around for decades and decades, incorporating only natural ingredients in products that make you leave your master bath feeling like you just stepped out of Bliss… 3 new scents have been added to a range of already stunning soaps, making the choice even harder. But the most difficult part is not choosing the scent, but actually taking it out of this absolutely gorgeous box…

This book serves it’s purpose well… portraits of 44 women wearing nothing more than Jimmy Choo’s and a single piece of Cartier jewelry, but it’s all for a greater good. The Sir Elton John AIDS foundation. An amazing book, the most amazing pictures of Christina Aguilera, Kate Moss (pictured) and Serena Williams and many more and a good cause. Nuff said. Amazon.com will get it to you in a couple of days and your purchase supports AIDS research, which in itself is reason enough to pay the money, let alone the book you get for it.

Baum265 Neu
..some of the most amazing fabric around… Close your eyes, think of a farm. A small one. Green all around, nothing fancy. That’s where Ocke Maeker looks at medieval tiles and gets her silk screens revvd up to print amazing patterns on the most amazing fabrics. Chinese silk, Crepesatin, Organza… Her sensibility when it comes to color and composition are extremely rare in this area and Tricia Guild was probably the last amazing fabrics person around. The beauty of her work: you can choose what ever pattern you fancy and she’ll create the exact measurements. Be it for a beautiful paravent hiding your desk or a fabric you want to use as a piece on the wall of your loft. You name it.

… a model idea is a poetic gesture with which the designer begins to shape something. It may never become a product, but will nevertheless act as a signpost for his future development or even the future development of others.

When thinking of a chair, a vase, a lamp or of any kind of known object, everyone has a general idea of the thing they are thinking of. In other words, there is a sort of archetype, a simplified original image, to which the mind refers when it encounters something or the word that represents it: vase, glass, teddy bear. This doesn’t mean that we all have the same lamp, the same bicycle or the same biscuit in mind. In fact, the different ways in which objects take shape is connected to the creative force of the archetype that resonates within the object and makes it recognisable, perhaps strange, unusual, disconcerting, yet nevertheless intelligible.

…that’s how Miriam Moeller describes her second beach and swim wear collection 2005.

Miriam MoellerMiriam Möller, 33, had a classic apprenticeship in tailoring in her native city of Hamburg before studying digital graphic design and fashion design at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She then worked creatively for Anna Sui as her personal design assistant.

Her colors are pink, lavender, turquoise and navy. Handcrafted embroidery is her individual fashion statement for the bikinis, pareos, peasant dresses, shorts and bags featured in her poetic and feminine collection.
